Overcome Pain Gentle Yoga


Immerse yourself in three days of learning to live with more ease. You can sit, lay down, and move as you need, while experiencing safe effective practices to decrease your pain, and help you move with more ease. You will explore modern science-based views on pain and chronic pain, while empowering yourself with practical tools for daily pain care. These yoga techniques can be modified for all, to help move with more ease again, wind down your nervous systems and promote positive, lasting changes in your life. Open to all levels of yoga experience.

Learning Objectives

1. The participants will be guided in a group setting, through specific techniques and practices that integrate pain science, yoga and movement – specific for individuals with complex chronic pain conditions.

2. The participant will gain a new understanding of pain, as it relates to western science, to specific yoga techniques, and to Yoga philosophy.

3. The participant will gain an understanding of how to integrate these practices into daily life, and the importance of daily planning to effective self management goals.

Prerequisites – none for people in pain. Yoga and movement practitioners and health professional can take this workshop to improve their knowledge and skills without completing Pain Care Yoga workshop. The course is part of the Pain Care Yoga certificate training program.

Registered physiotherapist, practising since 1985, and specializing for the past 17 years in pain science and pain management. Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, and a highly regarded educator, having received the Excellence in Interprofessional Pain Education award from the Canadian Pain Society in 2012, the Excellence in Clinical Contribution from the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia in 2011, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Queen’s University in 2015.

Faculty member in five yoga therapist training programs in Canada and USA, and an invited speaker at yoga and yoga therapy conferences.
